Support and resistance levels drawn automatically on a NinjaTrader 8 chart
Swing lows become support (green) and swing highs become resistance (red).

What the Support & Resistance indicator does

Drawing support and resistance by hand is slow, and no two traders draw it the same way. This indicator does it for you: it scans recent price action for significant swing pivots and marks them on the chart. Swing lows become support (green) and swing highs become resistance (red).

Each level starts at its pivot bar and extends to the right edge of the chart, so you can see at a glance how price has reacted to it. As new bars form, the levels are recalculated, so the chart always shows the most recent significant swings.

  • Automatic swing detection: no more redrawing levels every session.
  • You decide what counts as significant with the Swing Strength setting.
  • A clean chart: show only the nearest 1 to 10 levels of each kind.
  • Lines or zones: exact prices, or shaded reaction areas.
  • Strategy-ready: a built-in signal you can use in your own NinjaScript strategies.

How it finds support and resistance

A swing low is a bar whose low is lower than the bars on either side of it. A swing high is a bar whose high is higher than the bars on either side. The Swing Strength setting decides how many bars on each side must be higher (or lower) to confirm the pivot:

  • A higher Swing Strength finds fewer, more significant levels: the major pivots.
  • A lower Swing Strength finds more, shorter-term levels.

Max Levels caps how many support and how many resistance levels are shown at once, keeping the focus on the nearest and most recent ones.

Because a swing is confirmed using bars on both sides of the pivot, the newest levels appear only after enough bars have formed to the right of it. That's by design: every level comes from a confirmed swing.

Lines or shaded zones

Lines mode

A single horizontal line at each level: precise and uncluttered. You choose the line thickness and style (solid, dashed, dotted and so on). Best when you want an exact price to watch.

Zones mode

A shaded band centered on each level, extending a set number of ticks above and below it. Zones highlight a reaction area rather than a single price, which helps when placing entries and stops with some room. You control the band's height in ticks and its transparency.

Tips for using it

  • Match Swing Strength to your style. Day-trading a fast chart? Use a lower value for more responsive levels. Swing trading? Raise it so only major pivots are marked.
  • Zones for areas, lines for precision. Zones show a reaction area, useful for entries and stops with some wiggle room. Lines give an exact price to watch.
  • Add the bigger picture. Run it together with the Secondary Timeframe version, in different colors, to see local and higher-timeframe levels on the same chart.

For strategy developers

The indicator exposes a Condition series you can reference from your own NinjaScript strategies. It flags when price comes within about half an ATR of the nearest level: 1 near support (bullish), -1 near resistance (bearish) and 0 otherwise.

Frequently asked questions

Why do new levels appear a few bars after the swing?

A swing is only confirmed once enough bars (set by Swing Strength) have formed on both sides of the pivot. A lower Swing Strength makes new levels appear sooner; a higher one waits for bigger, more significant swings.

Why don't I see any levels?

Make sure enough bars are loaded: at least a couple of times the Swing Strength. A very high Swing Strength on a short chart may not find any qualifying swings. Also check that your license key is entered.

Can I see higher-timeframe levels on a fast chart?

Yes. That's what the Support & Resistance Secondary Timeframe indicator does: it calculates levels from a timeframe you choose, such as 30-minute, and draws them on your current chart.

How many computers can I use it on?

Each license covers up to 2 computers. Activation takes a few minutes on the Activate page.

Is it included in the bundle?

Yes. The NinjaTrader bundle includes all seven Tradebrary indicators at a discounted price.

Can I get a refund?

Because the indicator is digital and delivered instantly, all sales are final once license keys are issued. Please read the user guide and our Refund Policy before purchasing.
