RSI from three timeframes in one panel on a NinjaTrader 8 chart
Three RSI lines, one per timeframe, with colored regions when a timeframe reaches an extreme.

What the 3 Timeframe RSI indicator does

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is one of the most widely used momentum indicators, but on its own it only tells you about one timeframe. This indicator shows RSI from three timeframes at once in a single panel: your current chart's timeframe plus two higher timeframes you choose. You can see whether momentum agrees across timeframes without flipping between charts.

  • Three timeframes, one panel: your chart timeframe plus two more, 5-minute and 15-minute by default.
  • Colored regions appear when any RSI line enters the overbought or oversold zone, in a separate color for each timeframe.
  • Crossover markers: a small 1, 2 or 3 on the chart shows which timeframe just crossed an overbought or oversold level.
  • Fully customizable: RSI period, smoothing, colors and levels can be set for each timeframe.

Reading the colored regions

When an RSI line moves above the overbought level or below the oversold level, a colored region is drawn between the line and that level. Each timeframe has its own colors, so you can tell at a glance which timeframes are at an extreme:

TimeframeOverbought colorOversold color
TF1: your chart timeframeYellowCyan
TF2: second timeframeOrangeDark green
TF3: third timeframeRedLime

When several timeframes show colored regions at the same extreme, they agree. Many traders look for that kind of multi-timeframe agreement, together with confirmation from price action, before acting on an RSI signal.

Crossover markers

When RSI crosses the overbought or oversold level on any timeframe, a number appears on the chart showing which timeframe triggered it: 1 for your chart timeframe, 2 for the second timeframe and 3 for the third. Markers appear at the overbought level for overbought crossings and at the oversold level for oversold crossings, in the same color as that timeframe's line.

Frequently asked questions

What does "multi-timeframe RSI" mean?

RSI is normally calculated on the bars of the chart you're looking at. A multi-timeframe RSI also calculates it on higher timeframes, here two of your choice, and shows all of them together, so you can see short-term and bigger-picture momentum at the same time.

Which timeframes can I use?

The first RSI always uses your chart's timeframe. For the second and third you choose a bar type (Minute, Day, Week and so on) and a size. The defaults are 5-minute and 15-minute.

What do the numbers 1, 2 and 3 on the chart mean?

They're crossover markers. Each shows which timeframe's RSI just crossed the overbought or oversold level: 1 is your chart timeframe, 2 the second and 3 the third.

Can I change the overbought and oversold levels?

Yes. The defaults are 70 and 30. The overbought level can be set from 50 to 100 and the oversold level from 0 to 50.

How many computers can I use it on?

Each license covers up to 2 computers. Activation takes a few minutes on the Activate page.

Can I get a refund?

Because the indicator is digital and delivered instantly, all sales are final once license keys are issued. Please read the user guide and our Refund Policy before purchasing.
